Description
Amoxicillin is a β-lactam antibiotic with broad spectrum activities similar to that of ampicillin. It is effective against most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell-wall synthesis. Similar to other β-lactam antibiotics, amoxicillin activity is inhibited by β-lactamase producing microbes. Enhancement of activity has been reported when use in combination with a β-lactam inhibitor such as clavulanic acid.
