Application
N-Acetyl-L-cysteine has been used as a component of intestinal basal medium for the culture of mouse intestinal stem cells and also as a component of expansion medium.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Antioxidant and mucolytic agent. Increases cellular pools of free radical scavengers. Reported to prevent apoptosis in neuronal cells but induce apoptosis in smooth muscle cells. Inhibits HIV replication. May serve as a substrate for microsomal glutathione transferase.

کاربرد
N-استیل-اِل-سیستئین (NAC) به طور گسترده‌ای در محیط‌های کشت سلولی، از جمله محیط‌های کشت سلول‌های بنیادی روده موش، استفاده می‌شود. این ماده هم به عنوان جزئی از محیط پایه و هم به عنوان جزئی از محیط تکثیر عمل می‌کند و نقشی حیاتی در حفظ و ترویج رشد این سلول‌های بنیادی دارد.
کنش های بیوشیمیایی/فیزیولوژیکی
عامل آنتی‌اکسیدان و موکولیتیک. ذخایر سلولی مواد از بین برنده رادیکال‌های آزاد را افزایش می‌دهد. گزارش شده که از آپوپتوز در سلول‌های عصبی جلوگیری می‌کند اما در سلول‌های ماهیچه صاف آپوپتوز را القا می‌کند. تکثیر HIV را مهار می‌کند. ممکن است به عنوان سوبسترا برای گلوتاتیون ترانسفراز میکروسومی عمل کند.
