Application
Shikimic acid has been used as a standard for the quantification of shikimate in apical parts of roots. It has also been used as a substrate in shikimate kinase assay.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Shikimic acid is observed to be carcinogenic in rat models, when administered. It serves as a precursor for the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids, alkaloids and other aromatic metabolites in microorganisms. Shikimic acid is known to inhibit adenosine diphosphate (ADP) induced platelet aggregation and blood coagulation in rabbits.

اسید شیکیمیک به عنوان یک استاندارد برای تعیین کمیت شیکیمات در قسمت‌های انتهایی ریشه‌ها مورد استفاده قرار گرفته است. همچنین به عنوان یک سوبسترا در سنجش شیکیمات کیناز به کار رفته است.
کنش های بیوشیمی/فیزیولوژیکی
مشاهده شده است که اسید شیکیمیک در مدل‌های موش صحرایی، هنگام تجویز، سرطان‌زا است. این ماده به عنوان پیش‌ساز برای بیوسنتز اسیدهای آمینه آروماتیک، آلکالوئیدها و سایر متابولیت‌های آروماتیک در میکروارگانیسم‌ها عمل می‌کند. اسید شیکیمیک شناخته شده است که تجمع پلاکت‌های ناشی از آدنوزین دی‌فسفات (ADP) و انعقاد خون در خرگوش‌ها را مهار می‌کند.
